Online Debate 0716

Thankyou all for your very interesting contributions to last week's debate. This week, first a bit of vocabulary...

'To play the Devil's advocate' - to argue from a position you do not believe in to stimulate debate. Also a very entertaining film with Keanu Reeves.

and for discussion....

'The most important thing about a job is the money you earn.'

Lots of people say that they would prefer a job which is challenging and rewarding but at the end of the day these things don't matter as much. Life outside of work is far more valuable than life in work so if you earn lots of money doing a boring job during the week you can have more fun at the weekends!

Besides, if you earn lots of money doing your job you can save it and retire at 40 or 50 to do the things you want to do for the rest of your life.

Let’s change the topic:
'The most important thing about a job is how it makes money'
For me, yes. There are many jobs that by them you can earn too much money but not from good ways, for example by selling drugs or contraband you can have a large amount of money but...
After this the most important thing is being happy with the job. If you earn too much money with a job that you don't like it you are actually changing your time, life and happiness with money.
While you are alive you can try to make money but you never can retrieve your life with money. It is the most important thing that you should always remember. Imagine that you are 50 years old and you saved a lot of money by doing a job that you didn't like. Yes it's correct you can do the things you want to do for the rest of your life, but what about the years that you spent to achieve money. You will tell yourself: "I waste my best times" and it's the worst regret that anyone could have.

I agree 100% with you!!

In my case, in Mexico I worked for 8 years before coming to Europe (Spain), and after that time, I realized that in a job, more important than the money is you feel happiness and satisfaction with the job you do, because in that way you don not feel the job like an obligation, I mean, you do/make things you like and the better thing: you receive a payment!...

Of course, money is "important" because with money you "satisfy" the the things you need for living: food, house, health, clothing... how much money earn? it depends on the kind of job, the responsabilities you could have, and the life style you want to live.

Finally try to be happy with the job you have, and work for the kind of life style you want to have.

Well, I think that is very complicated and it depends on the point of view of the worker.

For example, nowadays that I'm not married nor have childrens, I can say that I preferd a job were I can feel happy, were I can have challenges and all, but... What would I think when I need to support a family? What would I think when my childrens needed to eat and go to shool? Those are my questions right now, so, because of this I would say that right now I preferd to enjoy my work and have a little money for travelling or be with my friends, but later I would prefer to have a lot of money in order to give my family what ever they need.

Of course that I would not sell drugs or something, I'm just saying that if I have the chance in the future to have another job that pays me more, maybe I would take it for my family, not for me, but right know, I'M REALLY HAPPY WITH MY JOB, because I have both things, and in Mexico is very difficult jaja.

It's not 100% true.

If the most important thing for you is that you need to make a lot of money to help you and your family live better, it’s true.
Living costs are getting more and more expensive, so we have to earn more money to ensure our quality of life because beggars can't be choosers.
You have to choose a job which can increase your pay. At the moment you must give up the low-paid job which you are interested in if you want to have a good life.

I think in every country people want to have their own house, car or other things. The more money you earn, the earlier you own your house. In my case, when I started to work, I rented a flat but the owner made very strict restrictions and he always wanted me to pay more. I had to move out and find another one. At that moment I was so eager to own my flat, I wanted to get a high-paid job so that I could buy a small flat as soon as possible.

But if you have enough savings to make sure your life is all right, I think you will pay more attention to the satisfaction and happiness which you can get from your work.
At the moment the money you earn from your job is not the most important thing.
Nobody wants to be a slave to money except the person who’s ambitious.

According to me ,, the money we earn from our jobs is for the effodrt we do , when we are working.

But , money is not every thing if I work the job that I like.
But when I am working in my free hours of the day, it means that I wanna that money which I'll get coz of my work hours, and doesn't matter about work type, just looking for that last hour of my work day,,, to get my money and go ! ;)

But about my job, which I used to go for every day morning and it is my job title [ in my ID .. :) ] SURE I like it and money I get from it is just a way to help me to do my job well !
