Listening

Here are some websites which may be useful for practicing listening... If you know of any others then please add them on the comments page!

www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/ - lots of different radio programmes, particularly useful is the listen again section. There are news, arts and current affairs programmes as well as debates and slightly rubbish comedy shows.

www.lastfm.com - An online radio station, no talking but a good way to discover new English music. Type in your favourite band and it will show you similar artists.

www.myspace.com/soundofacloud or www.cloudsounds.co.uk - Sometimes doesn't work properly... If you want to know about music in Manchester then listen to this podcast based radio show, the guy's quite funny and plays good tunes.

[Vocabulary: I've just used the word podcast but don't really know what it means... Can you help?]

www.alluc.org and www.tv-links.co.uk - these give you links to thousands of TV shows available online. Nearly anything you want to watch you should be able to find on one of the sites.

The 100 greatest American speeches, some interesting historical stuff here! Especially speeches by Martin Luther King, FDR and Richard Nixon.

Hey ellie, this is the email I got from the promoter...

Dear music-lover!

Thanks to all you came to last Saturday’s GREEN BOHEMIA Part 1… a good time was had by all! Tomorrow is Part 2, with an equally tantalising line-up of excellent artists. Details below. We’re also running 3 great band nights at The Attic next week, so scroll down for details of those!

More info available at www.myspace.com/sapromotions

Click on the artist names to go directly to their website / MySpace page.

GREEN BOHEMIA Part 2

Saturday 21st April

The Green Room (opposite the Ritz)

8.00pm til late

FREE ENTRY!!!

GREEN BOHEMIA is back with another 2 weekends of ridiculously top-quality music performed in the perfect ambience of The Green Room’s mezzanine balcony floor. Expect breath-takingly inspiring performances of spectacularly-good 100% original music from some of Manchester’s finest artists and bands! What more could you ask for? What’s that you say? No entry fee? Oh go on then, we’ll throw that in too! Don’t ever say we’re not good to you!

We have some fantastically quirky new acts on for the second part of GREEN BOHEMIA this month. Topping the bill are ONIONS, whose new video of their single “If It Ain’t Gonna Happen Now” is absolute quality, and you should definitely go here and check it out: www.myspace.com/onionstheband. THE GENERALISSIMOS will be taking the other full-band slot, performing their very own genius brand of “slightly odd pop music”. DR BUTLER’S HATSTAND MEDICINE BAND return to the GREEN BOHEMIA stage with their 1920s-styled ukele / double bass / acoustic extravaganza. Our good friend SLUGS ATE MY PARENTS is back to sing about killer laboratory-bred spiders from Salford and the dangers of laying down in long grass for too long!! On the more acoustic side of things STUART AVERY (yes, that’s me J) will be playing a set, as will EMMA STOCKTON & JOHN FAIRHURST. Accomplished writer, singer and session-player STEVE MARSDEN will be opening the proceedings at the slightly earlier time of 8.00pm.

Don’t miss it! Arrive early if you want a seat! Artists in reverse order of appearance are:
